Health and Safety

Health

Parents are asked to not send sick children to the child care. If a child present is getting sick, we will notify the parents immediately and the child needs to be picked up within two hours.

Fever: A child with a fever of more than 38ᵒC should be kept home. If the child is at Funtazia and gets a fever of 38,5 or more, the parents will be called and the child needs to be picked up within 2 hours. The child needs to be 24 hours free of the fever before returning to Funtazia.

Diarrhea: In the case of an acute period of diarrhea, the child must be kept home until he/she has been symptom-free for 24 hours. If the symptoms start at Funtazia, the parents will be called and the child needs to be picked up within 2 hours. The child needs to be 24 hours free of the symptoms before returning to Funtazia.

Vomiting: A child who is vomiting should be kept home until vomiting has stopped for 24 hours. If the child starts vomiting at Funtazia, the parents will be called and the child needs to be picked up within 2 hours. The child needs to be 24 hours free of the symptoms before returning to Funtazia.

Chicken pox or unexplained rash: In case of any rash the Funtazia teachers will check the rash with the school nurse. If we suspect the rash to be contagious we will call the parents and ask them to visit the doctor to get a confirmation about what kind of rash it is. If the doctor says the rash is not contagious then the child can come back to Funtazia. If the rash is contagious we will follow the advice of the GGD (Dutch child care inspection) to check if the child can stay at the daycare or not.

Some rashes, for example chicken pox, are contagious, but because the incubation time is 2 weeks, the child has already infected other children around him/her before the actual spots were showing. In case of a rash like this there is no need for the child to stay at home, unless he/she is obviously not feeling well and/or has a fever.

Conjunctivitis: A child should be seen by a doctor to see if it is an infection which needs to be treated by antibiotics, or if it is just a sign of a very bad cold. If the child is seen by the doctor we will follow our protocol as following: if it is not an infection, the child can come to Funtazia. If it is an infection, the child can still come to Funtazia, but needs to be treated with antibiotics first.

Head lice: If a child has head lice, parents are asked to take the child home and start immediate treatment. If the parents are not available to pick up the child right away, the treatment must be started when arriving at home in the afternoon/evening. To prevent the spread of head lice, children’s coats and personal items such as hats, will be placed in a special bag. Parents are notified immediately. There is no need to let your child stay at home.

Asthma: If a child suffers from asthma, parents are requested to supply an asthma action plan from the child’s doctor upon registration at Funtazia. Details include symptoms, signs and what medication should be used in case of an asthma attack.

Allergies: Parents are requested to notify Funtazia staff if their child has any allergies and of any emergency medication they may require. Funtazia staff are trained to recognize, administer, and monitor these situations, under the guidence of emergency services.

Injuries: If the injury requires emergency treatment, parents will be notified immediately. If the child’s condition requires hospital treatment, we will contact the emergency services (112) for an ambulance to transport the child as soon as possible to the hospital.

Medication: to protect children from any incorrect administration of medication, strict policies have been developed. Parents must sign a medicine form which allows us to give your child the medicine during his/her stay at Funtazia. Funtazia does NOT give paracetamol or other painkillers to the children.

Safety

Nothing is more important than your child’s safety. Funtazia International Child Care meets the requirements and regulations according to Dutch child care law. This includes the local health department (GGD) and fire safety regulations. In order to ensure a highly qualified team of staff, our recruitment policy is very strict. Teachers must be fully qualified and experienced in order to work with, and take responsibility for, the care of the children at Funtazia. All our teachers have followed a First Aid course, and are in possession of a First-Aid certification.
